Mountains of adventure for the kids

For kids of all ages a holiday in Austria is one big adventure. Austria, and specifically Schladming is a great place for kids. In the city as well as in the mountains there are numerous exciting and very unique playgrounds and trails for kids of all ages.

There is a weekly program especially for the kids with lots of exciting and creative activities like tinkering, carpeting, learn to climb, ride a pony, canoe, wild-west afternoon and Midget golf.
​
For a relaxing day you can visit one of the many swimlakes (like Pichl badesee or Ramsau beach) or pools (like Erlebnisbad Schladming, ErlebnisFreibad Haus or Therme Amade)
We can recommend "Haus der Natur" and "Spielzeugmuseum" in Salzburg as great indoor activities.

Biking
Cycling is a great way to enjoy the lovely nature around Schladming.
There is a variety of routes (plane, uphill or downhill).
The "schladming-dachstein 3D" app provides you a great overview of all the routes and navigates you while you are on route.

A famous route is the "Ennsradweg" besides the river Enns. The whole tour takes about 3 days, but you can cycle a part of it. The tour leads you through pitoresque little city's, great views and quiet nature

Be in time! Although they have a huge bikepark they are soldout mostly in the summerweeks!
Looking outside the piekvier lodge apartments you will have a great view on the Planai mountain.
The Planai is famous for it's very large cycling area. This area has cycling routes for beginners but also experienced bikers can indulge themselves at the Bikepark Planai!

Check the video for some impressive antics by experienced bikers. You can descent at your on pace. For every level there are various routes that make for a spectacular ride.
Adventurous hikes in the fairylike nature
There are a 1000km of marked hiking routes in the surrounding of Schladming. Hikes at all levels; easy routes accessible for small children and buggies and adventurous routes along rivers and lakes for bigger children and adults.

Alongside the falls you can have a great climbing experience and for the fanatics there are high-altitude tours for one or multiple days.
​
Along most routes you will find the typical cosy Austrian huts where you can buy delicious regional products or just enjoy a drink.
Music and shopping in baroque Salzburg
Salzburg
It's a one hour drive from Schladming to the impressive city Salzburg.
It is certainly worthwhile to visit Salzburg. The city has got wonderful historic buildings, offers many classical concerts and contains a wide range of shops.

​Salzburg is Mozarts hometown and that is why this town still exudes the atmosphere of music.
Everywhere music is played and some concerts you join spontaneously . Whether you like classic music or not you will be enchanted by the atmosphere of a concert in a church or a historical building.
​
In the ‘’Getreide Gasse’’ you will find many shops. On a rainy day you can visit this large indoor shopping mall Europark with 130 shops and restaurants.
​
Along the river ‘’de Salzach’’ you can make a beautiful walk along big historical buildings and hotels and feel like you are in another far-away world.
​
There are also many parks and gardens with beautiful flowers. Visit for example the Mirabellgarten.

Our personal favorites:
- "Alpinsteig durch die Höll", a very spectacular two hour walk along many waterfalls with several ladders and a rope bridge.
​
- "Waldhäusalm" a cozy restaurant with a huge playground and petting zoo. Fun for both young and older children. Nearby you can walk along the "Wildes Wasser" and catch your own meal (trout).
​
- Erlebnis Rittisberg, an adventure parc for the young and the young at heart ones. With a coaster, flyline, barefeet road, fairtytail trail and the best pizza at Ramsau beach.
